I would honestly recommend any pregnant woman to avoid giving birth at Blackpool Victoria hospital.
I had an excellent pregnancy i was perfectly healthy when my labour started. The care I received during my pregnancy was great.
My water broke at midnight and I was told to come in to be checked over. I waited 3 hours to be checked and told to go home and wait to see what happens. My contractions hadn't started 24 hours later so we returned at midnight to be induced. I was not put on the drip until 6am. The room that I was put in to deliver was disgusting, dirty and the facilities were inadequate. The bathroom had a bath which was hanging off the wall and had an out of order notice on it.
My labour was very quick. Whilst pushing my cannula came out therefore the induction stopped and my contractions stopped. I continued to push but she was stuck, her stats were dropping and the midwives were very worried and started calling for the doctor.
The doctor never came. It took my mum screaming and 5 calls to the doctor to get the doctor to come. It was obvious from everyone in the room including staff that my babies life was in danger. All the time I was pushing with no contractions.
As soon as the doctor came I was given an episiotomy and my baby came out. Thankfully she was safe.
I was stitched up by the doctor who was obviously in a rush to get to other women in trouble.
I was told to go shower by the midwife and sent covered in blood on my own into a dangerous shower over a bath which was cracked. I was later transferred to ward d.
The staff on ward d were rude, unhelpful and yet again under staffed. I struggled to breastfeed and kept asking for support I was just fobbed off and told different things by different people. The ward was unbelievably loud and it was impossible to rest. I was desperate to be discharged.
Within 24 hours of being discharged all of my episiotomy stiches burst. They were obviously not put in correctly. The external and internal stiches came out leaving a large gaping hole in my vagina. I had several repeat visits to the delivery suite and saw many different consultants and midwives many of which gave different advice and many of which obviously didn't know what they were talking about. The staff that treated me admitted that my treatment had not been good. I was put on antibiotics which made me very ill and was in incredible pain to sit or stand.
Becoming a new mum is hard enough for anyone without being mistreated in labour. I am now 5 weeks post labour and still in pain with a large raw wound. I am having to have baths 3 times a day which is nearly impossible with a newborn. I still wake up having nightmares.
The midwives that cared for me were very caring however it is obvious that they are majorly understaffed and cannot cope. There are not enough doctors available which puts the life of you and your baby at risk.
The cqc also rate this department as inadequate. They deserve this rating.
"Inadequate facilities, treatment and staffing..."
