My father passed away this week having spent seven weeks on ward 45 following a severe stroke. Our whole family have been extremely impressed by the care and dedication shown by all the staff on ward 45. Despite the stress of the last few weeks, we have all felt heartened and supported by the dignity, patience and care with which my father was treated by all the staff from the consultant down to the lovely people who served the drinks and kept the ward clean. The ward sister and my dad's nurse during the last few days of his life showed a deep sense of humanity in dealing both with my father and us, the grieving relatives. Staff hugged my mother when my father died and several staff came into the room to pay their respects and console the family. Never once did we feel the staff had given up on my dad and this sense of optimism sustained us all during this difficult time. Thank you to all the staff on Ward 45 - you should be very proud of the amazing and utterly vital work you do. We will never forget how you cared for Dad and supported us.
