"Concern of suitability for minor procedure"

About: Liverpool Community Health NHS Trust

(as the patient),

I was referred to the Liverpool Community Trust 'treatment room' system by my GP to have a cyst removed from my chest area.

When the 'choose and book' service called, I was given a choice of a number of local medical centres who perform the procedures. I choose the Priory Medical centre which his was the closest to my home.

I have serious concerns over the Priory Medical Centre's suitability to perform these procedures.

The room where the cyst was removed was inadequate to perform the procedure and their infection control practices were questionable.

The whole experience was very upsetting and the wound has since become infected.

Dear Concerned,

I am really sorry that you have had such an upsetting experience and hope you are starting to feel a little better. I have spoken to the Manager of the Treatment Rooms in Liverpool who has explained that Liverpool Community Health do not hold any clinics at Priory Medical Centre. This is a GP surgery who perform some minor surgery procedures. I apologise for the frustration that this will cause but I will need to contact one of my colleagues in Liverpool CCG who will be able to give you a much more informative reply.

Many thanks,

Kate Jones

Dear ConcernedOct15,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story with us. I am so sorry to hear about your poor experience of the minor surgery clinic at Priority Medical Centre. This is not the level of service we would expect people to be receiving and we will look into your concerns regarding the suitability of the room used to perform procedures at the clinic and the infection control procedures in place. Please leave this with us and we will come back to you with an update on our investigation very soon.

Your story is quite timely as we are in the process of reviewing how skin services are provided across Liverpool and have opened up a public conversation to help us understand what people’s current experiences are and what people think about a proposed model to improve the care that is provided. You can find out more about what is being proposed by clicking here:-

We really want to make sure what is being proposed will provide the level of care that people want, in a way that is supportive and meets their needs. Given your recent experience we would love to hear what you think about the proposals and whether you think they would improve future care. You can do think by taking a short survey.

Once again, thank you so much for getting in touch we appreciate the time it took to share your story. We hope that by you raising this and by us looking into your concerns that we can offer better care in the future.

If you would like to discuss your experience in person please do get in touch with me on 0151 296 7537. Otherwise I will keep you posted here.

Best wishes,

Kelly
