"Unacceptable care from maternity unit"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital

I gave birth to my beautiful daughter in July 2015 at mmh. My experience with the consultants, doctors and surgeons was very good. However 90% of the midwives were extremely unprofessional and didn't give me the time of day. I understand they are busy but a lot of the midwives I came across should not be in this industry in my opinion.

I was suffering from anxiety during my final trimester after having two previous pregnancy losses at that hospital. The midwives did not want to help and referred me to phyciatric department which was a very scary place and not one which is safe for a pregnant vulnerable young woman. A little understanding and support from a midwife was all I needed.

After I gave birth I was rushed to theatre due to haemorrhaging. Since I had epidural I was unable to walk to toilet. Shamefully I soiled myself several times due to cocktail of medication they pumped me with in surgery. The nurses cleaned me up and explained that happens after this certain drug and then they had to change shifts. When it happened again I informing the new nurses, who were really put out, I heard them comment on how much it stunk and continued with their paperwork, left me lying in my own poo for over an hour like an animal! It made me feel extremely humiliated. I complained to the head midwife and as a result one of the midwives questioned me about it and then intentionally smashed my bed into every wall while wheeling me back to my ward.

I was separated from my baby for 9 hours immediately after birth so she was left without milk! I kept asking to see my baby and the midwives ignored me. When I was finally reunited with her I asked serval midwives if she was ok because she was jittery and red and they told me she was fine. It was only when a Dr came round to do rounds that I was taken seriously and it turned out she had an infection and needed intervenes antibiotics.

In general there was lack of care on the midwives behalf who made me feel like a nuisance every time I called mcu for anything I was concerned about. They ignored keystones +4 and protine +3 for months. Failed to investigate cause of sudden continuous vomiting in third trimester with failure to keep down food/water and overlooked all the signs of pre eclampsia until my kidneys were failing and I was actually passing pure blood through my caffater during labour. Very frightening to see!

I am now terrified of falling pregnant again and even tho I live within a stones throw of the hospital, I will never give birth at that hospital again!
