"My mother was admitted via A&E, ..."

About: The James Cook University Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

My mother was admitted via A&E, Ward 15 and then Ward 3 (elderly care). I found the standard of nursing management and care to be excellent. The nursing staff communicated effectively and sensentively. The nursing focus was on real nursing issues and the nurses were knowledgeable about the details of my mother's progress.

What could be improved

The waiting time in A&E (although the department was busy when we arrived).

Anything else?

I would like to reassure others who may need to use these services particularly with older people.

I am pleased you had an overall positive experience at this hospital and have fed these back to the Management Team for Acute Medicine.

Waiting times in A&E fluctuate dependent upon the activity in the department and the availability of beds on the wards. However, every effort is made to transfer patients to the appropriate specialty bed in a timely manner.
