What I liked

My son was admitted to the paediatric day unit for a minor procedure.I was so impressed with the total professionalism and friendliness of ALL the staff who delvered his care. Special thanks to Louise, the nurse who looked after him, the very pleasant anaesthatist, operating department technician and the surgeon. What a brilliant team. We are so lucky to have such a fantastic NHS!

What could be improved

The waiting time! We had over a 2 hour wait in the outpatient department 2 days before the admission and a 3 hour wait in the day unit before my son went into theatre. He had starved from midnight the night before and was very bored and VERY hungry.

I was delighted to read your entry onto the NHS Choices website, following your son’s admission to the Paediatric Day Unit. Please be assured I will forward your comments to the Management Team to share with the staff. It was disappointing to hear about your waiting times, however, I would like to reassure you staff do try to avoid delays. Perhaps the communication regarding explanations could have been enhanced in these situations. The Management Team will reflect on these comments to hopefully prevent this from reoccurring.
