"Removal of blackthorn. Thorn"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford)

Taking my Grandson to AE department following an incident at school where he was pushed and fell into a blackthorn bush and tried to save himself with his hand . Local MIU unit unable to remove it and identifying that it should be examined by a plastic surgeon as the thorn was long and they were unsure as to any damage may have occurred. The AE department gave a timely triage and referred him to medical practioners and checking pain before passing him over . The medical practioners referred him immediately to the plastic team. The very efficient plastic team completely cleaned and removed the thorn and dressed the wound then put his name down for theatre.

His treatment throughout was exemplary with compassion and at all times discussed his treatment openly and honestly to this 16 year old . His pain levels were always being checked and gave us all confidence in his care which is now continuing .The AE department although busy was running extremely well .
