Although I had to chase the appointment for the check up after a year, I cannot praise the Arthroplasty Nurse enough. As soon as he knew I was due to come in he sent out an appointment immediately and saw me within 2 weeks.
His clinic was running on time, he was utterly professional but personable and kind, ensuring I knew where to go for the xray and then come back to see him.
He was thorough in his examination and fed back what he was discovering - which was all very helpful. I asked if he could look at the xrays and compare the hip that wasn't done and it was so reassuring to see and hear that there was little if any difference in 18 months and that it looked pretty "normal" for its age. There had always been the thought that the other hip might go the same way, but so relieved to know that that is not the case at the moment.
We talked about my experience of the procedure and he apologised for the fact that I was given codeine when I shouldn't have been, resulting in 4 days of acute nausea. It was in my notes that I shouldn't have codeine, but they just didn't want me to have pain, so done from the best of intentions.
I felt fully listened to, understood and reassured after this appointment. He was a shining example of how these things can be done efficiently and professionally with a touch of humour thrown in. Great job, thank you.
