"Visit to A&E - TMI (too much information!)"

About: King's Mill Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I visited A&E over a bank holiday weekend with my husband. My overall experience was positive with friendly staff, caring attitude and we were seen and referred on promptly making the visit as short as possible. There was however a general lack of care for our emotional wellbeing as we were facing a difficult time emotionally as well.

Unfortunately all of the goods were outweighed by a huge bad point...

The doctor took us into one of the side rooms to assess me, he needed to leave the room briefly to get some equipment and in doing so left his computer logged in with information of everyone in A&E that day (including myself) visible. If we wanted to we could have seen names, addresses, DOB and the reason for their trip to hospital. Being a nurse myself and having a respect for patient confidentiality I did not read the information in front of me but that is not the point, it could have been someone else who did read it, the doctor could have done this prior to seeing me and so someone could have read all about me and my reason for going to hospital. I also know the amount of training that we, as healthcare professionals, have in terms of patient confidentiality and information governance and so I also known there is no excuse!
