"John's Campaign - for the rights of carer's to be part of our NHS care-givers at all times"

About: Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Dorset Healthcare University NHS Foundation Trust Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

(as a staff member),

I heard about John's Campaign yesterday and I was moved almost to tears. The campaign is simply asking for basic rights for carer's - for them to be welcomed into hospitals in the way we welcome parents of sick children - to be encouraged and supported as a valuable resource - to be able to stay with their relative or loved one and give them time and care and love - to be recognised as more than just a visitor.

I work in a mental health community Trust in Dorset and manage a community team that cares for people with dementia. I believe we look after our patients well and take carers into account at all steps of the journey BUT this campaign is not formally signed up to in my Trust.

I would like the campaign to be adopted in all the local community hospitals in this county under Dorset Healthcare University Foundation Trust and also in Royal Bournemouth, Dorchester County and Poole Hospital. I hope they are able to take this forward, as I have sent the campaign information to each of their PALS departments this morning.

Dear Ladyboodles

Thank you for posting on what is such a very important topic. I think we all as staff and family members take a role as carer at some point, or different durations of time and completely support the need to ensure we are respectful, supportive and inclusive of our carers needs. This is something that we at the Trust have been working on for several years.

At the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Trusts we have carers stake holders events and actually have one 12th November. Obviously places are limited due to capacity and primarily for carers but if you would like to join us please contact James Rowden on 01202 726273.

We recognised the impact of having carers with patients as it is so important for all. Thank you again

Kind regards

Sue
