"Antenatal and maternity services of Whittington..."

My experience at Whittington was a mixture of positives and negatives.

Antenatal class were a bit long they should have kept it in two parts.

I had to go for frequent ultrasounds to check on my baby's growth the wait for them were mostly long not great when you have work and as I was going for so many my managers weren't too happy.

I had to be induced and that took a couple of days, all the staff at that point were very nice one even gave me a hug when they were coming off a shift. As it was early in the morning it did take a while for them to make a decision as what to do with me and to treat me.

I was then moved to another one of the many rooms I would stay in during my time at the hospital.

The bathroom on the labour ward should have been checked more often and the cleaner was not happy with me walking to the toilet at 3am on their clean floor. I was then moved a few times between the different rooms on this ward and quite a few times forgotten about especially when it came to meal times, thankfully I had my husband or my mother staying with me most of the time.

I knew what I wanted in terms of how my labour should go but of course it doesn't go the way you want but I do feel if they had of listened to me I wouldn't have been there so long.

When I finally got my epidural which they wanted to avoid, I didn't understand their reasoning when the doctor was explaining it to me and colleagues. Things started to go along much better and I was more relaxed, being induced I would say was the worst part for me.

I was told later my son's shoulder and that my body was not able to give birth naturally.

At the time when I was giving birth and he had got stuck, they tried pulling and using forceps bringing in another doctor to help, which has caused a dent in his head and one of his eyes to bulge.

I then had to have an emergency c section that went well apparently the best stitching my midwife had seen.

I was then moved to the maternity ward which was cubicles divided by curtains, so you could hear everything that was going on with everyone, not great when you wanted to sleep. They had told me that I would be staying in the new section after I gave birth, I had stayed in the room while waiting to be induced, it was really nice and you had your own room and bathroom

I only met two of the night nurses and only one of them was nice the other told me I should (not in exact words) keep my baby quiet, none of the other mothers were told the same and their babies were making more noise then mine.

I was lucky I was close to the bathroom but again they needed regular checks I was put off again by all the blood and having to clean it myself.

Again they seem to forget about me when it came to food, I would always have to reorder, not get what I want. This time I didn't get my meal till my husband came to take me home.

Overall most the staff were great which made up for the really long stay and I got my wonderful little boy out of this experience.
