"Chaotic service"

About: Airedale General Hospital

I had an appointment for a bowel scope and was 1 hour 40 minutes late going in. My appointment was 1pm so why the delay? I spoke to another patient whose appointment was 1.15 and she had been in, given another bowel prep and called in again before me. Yes, it was the same room and nurse scopist. And no, there was not an emergency.

When I did go in for the procedure, I was told that I could have gas and air but was not given a connected mouth piece. When I needed it, the health care support worker who should have given it to me was pressing my tummy to help the scope so could not give it. There were at least 3 other nurses in the room (scopists from Bradford apparently) who just stood there and did not offer the gas and air to me. I was in agony.

Please do not advise me to contact PALS at that is a pointless waste of time. Please perhaps just take note of my post!

We are extremely sorry that you have had such a poor experience whilst recently attending the Endoscopy Unit. We would like patients to receive the very best care and treatment, so please be reassured that the Trust takes such concerns very seriously. Your comments have been passed on to the management team in order for action to be taken to make improvements to this service.
