"Awful experience"

About: St Bartholomew's Hospital

Been an inpatient for a short time, perhaps the worst hospital experience I ever had. The building is a disgrace,I could not imagine that in the 21st century in one of the richest countries in the world such ward can exist.Yes,I know that a new building is going up as I write, but this building should have been updated 20 or more years ago.

There is not even an earphone radio (apparently it's been removed),no shop, very basic disabled facilities. There is not even a toaster to give patients a toast for breakfast.

The overall impression is that there is no leadership, guidance or supervision, otherwise somebody would have done something about the trolley which comes around selling everything the doctors told us were no good for us:crisps,Coke, biscuits etc.In a cardiac ward. The food generally is a stodge,no lettuce, tomato anything healthy appears on the list.

Nobody seems to have pointed out to the nurses it is not a good idea for a heart patient to spend their days in an armchair with legs dangling. That they could offer a stool for the patients to put their feet up.

Equally, nobody suggested to the cleaners that it is possible to clean the whole of the bedside table by moving the jug of water, glass etc a bit. Forget cleaning under the beds.

During my stay my medications have been altered several times without the knowledge and consent of the doctor in charge. No idea who was responsible.Nobody took the trouble to talk to me.

The equipment monitoring my heart was supposed to be watched all the time by a nurse at the nurses' station. How come that when some of the pads fell off my chest nobody reacted until I rang the bell.Surely the lack of some readings must have shown up.

As I said, there does not seem to be anybody in charge,it would usually be a sister but I never saw them.
