"Waiting time for knee operation"

About: Ninewells Hospital / General Surgery

(as the patient),

Waiting time for knee operation. It's now been nearly 5 months and still no indication of when this is likely to be. March 2016 plans made at beginning of 2015 are now looking doubtful and I need to make a decision very soon. It would be of help if I had some idea of waiting time. Letter sent needs at least 1 month to reply and phone calls with a message left has not been returned as promised.

Dear Cuckoo, I am sorry that you are experiencing a lengthy wait for your knee operation and that your calls enquiring about this have not been returned. Unfortunately, as a consequence of unprecedented numbers of patients requiring emergency admission to hospitals within NHS Tayside, the Orthopaedic service has had to cancel planned surgery for patients resulting in unavoidable delays. Please be assured that plans are being developed to manage the backlog and reschedule patients in accordance with clinical priorities.

If you could contact the Complaints and Feedback Team on 0800 025 5507 (freephone) or via email feedback.tayside@nhs.net we will be happy to assist you in obtaining an update.
