"Personal belongings missing"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Mental Health (Wards 19 &20)

(as a relative),

My sister was on ward 20 in Hairmyres, East Kilbride and we were not aloud to help pack her personal belongings for a transfer to another hospital. Some items were missing from her bag such as her PJ's, slippers, teddy bear and toothbrush.

When we phoned the ward the next day they said they were not there. I find this hard to believe as when had only left the night before and there was many items missing. I would hope that staff should take better care and attention of personal belongings especially on a psychiatric ward. I would hope that future that this is not repeated and passing this message to the ward may help future patients.

Dear Sio-B,

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch, I’ve contacted the ward to share your story and to ask them to check for the belongings you have mentioned.

We know that personal items and effects are really important to people so ward staff always try and ensure that everything accompanies the patient when they leave. I’m sorry that doesn’t appear to have been the case for your relative.

Please contact the ward on Tel No; 01355 585201 if you haven’t found the items in the meantime and if they haven’t been located by the ward staff I’d ask you to contact my Patient Affairs Team on Tel No: 01698 858321.
