"Brilliant hospital"

About: Manchester Royal Eye Hospital

On Saturday 3/10/15 my Mums vision suddenly deteriorated so I took her to Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, it's not the closest one to us but in our opinion certainly the best, she has previously been to another one & because of that I chose to take her to MRI. We were in the emergency clinic for about 5 hours altogether having had at least 4 different tests and seen the consultant & nurses, they kept us up to date as to what was happening & how long we may have to wait but to be honest I would have sat there for 5 days if it would have been necessary to save her sight. Mum can only see out of one eye anyway so it was important that she be seen asap. We were given an appointment for the following Friday 9/10/15 Mum again saw many nurses & a doctor & had even more tests done, this time we were only there about 2 hours. The doctor said Mum has Wet AMD & her cataract lens that she had implanted last year had started frosting, and said Mum would have an appointment to go back for treatment within 2 weeks, Mum got her appointment letters on Thursday to go in today. We've just been to J clinic Mums appointment was 8.30 & we got there early but were seen at her appointed time, everyone was so nice the receptionist, nurses, photographer & doctors. The staff kept us informed all the time what needed doing, where she would be going next & approximately how long we would be there. Mum had anaesthetic drops in her eye then had the eye injected where the bleed is, they were all so lovely & patient with Mum without being patronising, they asked permission before doing any procedure, everyone was very clean, washed their hands and used the sanitising gel when we went in the room, the hospital was spotless & I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Would I recommend it to family & friends? I would I will shout it from the highest roof tops. If you value your eyesight & you have a problem go to hospital, take a book whether it be a reading one or an audio one, if there's a wait so what they are trying to save your sight & there could be an emergency that needs to be seen straight away I knew there would be a wait, I knew if we went to the other hospital we would get seen quicker & probably by the same doctors but not by the same nurses or ancillary staff & not in such a clean, bright hospital & trust me I look to see how hygienic people are I'm an ex nurse & I know to look where others may not see. Thank you very much to everyone for helping to save my Mums eyesight.
