"struggling hospital"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital

My dad was admitted via a&e on Thursday evening, and after reading bad things in the press I must say I was worried, not only about his health but also how he would be treated.

On arrival in A&e he was immediately seen by a stroke nurse and told he would be admitted to AMU for observation. Whilst in A&e we were shocked to see really poorly people on trollies in hallways and paramedics helping in A&E, neither is acceptable but this is not the fault of people working in the dept as they were working flat out. My dad then spent 18 hours in AMU, the department wasn't particularly clean/ tidy but again the staff are not to be blamed, we witnessed everyone working flat out all trying to do their best for all the patients but quiet simply there wasn't enough members of staff for the needs of the patients, the lovely nurses that took care of my dad in this dept. spent most of their time putting elderly confused people back into bed instead of being able to get on with their other more important duties, but they really was doing their best.

The problem with this hospital is its covering such a large area that it just can't cope with the number of people needing to be admitted daily and it was most definitely understaffed. I would just like to say thank you to everyone who was on duty on thursday/ Friday who cared for my dad you all did/ do an amazing job and don't deserve the rubbish reports you receive it's not your fault it's a government/ infrastructure issue that needs urgent attention.
