About: University Hospital Of North Durham

My Mam came in by ambulance yesterday afternoon. The first 3-4 hours we were seen by nurses and a Doctor explaining she would need to stay in overnight at least. At 6pm we were told she was waiting for a bed ...at 9pm we were still waiting with no word. Had to ask the lovely staff what was happening, which I don't enjoy doing as I know they are very busy.

I'd just like to say many people understand the pressures on staff in A&E and waiting times increase if urgent cases come in, also that patients leaving hospital needing transport hold beds up in wards. But the waiting would be less stressful if someone could just speak to individuals with updates even if there is no change.

Or as in the waiting room, regular announcements are made as to waiting times and reasons like an urgent case has come in.

But Durham do a fine job and their staff are brilliant.

A lovely nurse offered my Mam a sandwich and tea... I'd like to thank them for their kindness, it was really appreciated.

It's those small things that make a huge difference x.

I know they will be encouraged by your positive comments.

I will of course highlight the area of concern you raised regarding communication with them to discuss with the staff.
