"I went into A&E with a suspected ..."

About: University Hospital Of North Durham

(as the patient),

What could be improved

I went into A&E with a suspected miscarrige. I waited over 5 hours to be seen by a doctor and spent my first hour layed in the reception. Being stared at by other patients while I cried hysterically. This was the worst thing that has ever happened to me in my entire life and left me traumatised & suicidal. The staff were very unsympathetic & unprofessional. I was told 2 weeks later that I had lost my baby the news was broken to us in what can only be described as a storage cuboard with staff coming in and out while we tried to speak to a doctor. The doctors did not seem to have even basic medical knowledge and had to keep leaving us in the cuboard to ask another member of staff to get answers to our questions. We were offered no support or counselling. Staff should be trained in how to handle situations like these to avoid causing even more uncessary suffering.
