"Pregnancy Blood Test"

About: Dewsbury & District Hospital

My partner who is 33 weeks pregnant and struggling with pain was admitted last week for a blood test to Dewsbury Triage. She as told be to there by 4:45 as it was urgent they get the test done ASAP. I left work early and we got there. Over an hour wait and we got the blood test done, we had our 1 year old daughter with us which is less than ideal but we were only going for a blood test so it shouldn't take long! 10:30 pm comes around and after multiple complaints and waiting for a doctor who are all unavaliable we are told we should be able to go home, great news. They come back and say that the test results should have been back by now but they were not so they need to be taken again as they have been lost. Eventually after the second set of bloods we left the hospital at 11:15, 5 and a half hours after getting there, no wonder the place is full! We got the results from this urgent test around 10pm the following day! seems really urgent to me. Low Iron was the verdict and a follow up blood test next week.

Our daughter is in nursery half day so she needs picking up at 12:30 so my partner rang the day before to arrange to go to Triage early (8 am) so they had plenty of time which they confirmed would be okay. I drop her off at the hospital and she gets told Triage is closed and sent to another department, she is then told she needs to make an appointment at Wakefield instead but she can't do that until 9am. My partner rang me almost in tears and so angry. Why did Triage say it was okay to come in early! The service from Dewsbury has been shocking.

Pregnant ladies need to reduce their stress levels and Dewsbury hospital has done the exact opposite! The NHS should be ashamed of this service.

we would be pleased to arrange for this experience to be investigated if the patient would like to contact us directly.
