"Inadequate mental health care"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / General Medicine

(as a parent/guardian),

My son was admitted to Dumfries Infirmary following a paracetamol overdose.

He was discharged two days later without medical assessment or a discharge letter and no mental health follow up despite living on his own as a student with the advice to get in touch a GP to ask to be put a waiting list of several months for support therapy.

I raised concern that this demonstrated a total lack of concern for his safety and requested a Dr assess him all day to no avail from 9am until we left the ward at 8pm.

Dear Fletcherm

I am so sorry that you weren't happy with the support provided to your son at an obviously distressing time. If you or your son feel able to get in touch with us direct I can arrange for the issues you raise to be looked into? My direct email address is hazelborland@nhs.net, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Hazel Borland

Nurse Director
