"5 hours in A&E - good care but uncomfortable..."

My husband was brought in by ambulance with symptoms of epilepsy or possible stroke.

When I arrived he was sitting up, but asleep, in a plastic chair in the corridor of an A&E 'ward'.

During the 5 hours we were there we were seen once an hour and looked after with a cup of tea and biscuits.

My observations are that an hour between nurses/Dr's visits seems a very long time when you are feeling so poorly although I am sure if he had suffered a stroke or something more serious he would have been in a bed and been attended to more frequently.

I think that being kept sitting upright in a very uncomfortable plastic chair in an area too narrow for seating, so that when a trolley went past, which was frequently, you had to get up and move the chair, is not helpful when you feel very unwell.

I assume that the area where the chairs were located was not designed to hold people on chairs but it needs a bit of thought from the hospital planners. More comfortable chairs for people who are feeling unwell in an area where they can sit/lie back without disturbance would be better.
