"From Urology to Uncology"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - City Campus

For some time I have had a problem with my Bladder – and, as someone who has Private Health Insurance, I saw a specialist in order to try to have the problem solved.

I was advised that the best treatment that was available to me would be by a Nurse led clinic in Nottingham City Hospital – a unit which has been set up in the Urology Department – I took this advice and from then on the question of private healthcare has never arisen – quite clearly for this treatment the NHS is well out in front !

The kindness of the nurses and the expert treatment I was provided was proving to be successful – until the supplies of the Salk Vaccine (which is used for the treatment of bladder cancer) came to a halt.

This then meant that I had to move to alternative treatment, and I was passed from Urology to Oncology – where I had, over a 6 week period, a combination of both Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy.

That treatment period is now completed and at the end of this month I will have a bladder scan to see if the treatment has been successful.

Whether or not the results are positive, the fact of the matter is that having recently spent a substantial part of my life having treatment at Nottingham City Hospital I do not believe that I could have had better treatment, nor had such caring and pleasant nursing staff, anywhere in the world. It mattered not whether it was Radiotherapy or Chemotherapy, the standard set were so high and

I cannot praise the staff enough for their attitude not only to me but to all the patients with whom I became acquainted during my 6 weeks period of treatment.

Well done, City Hospital
