"Gynaecology consultants"

About: Guy's Hospital

I have been attending this hospital over the last 14 months and each time I go for an appointment the waiting time is over two hours - with no apology.

Each time I see the Gynaecologist I get different information regarding these multiple Fibroids, I am sick and tired with the lack of emotional intelligence displayed by these consultants.

They are arrogant and lack knowledge, they based their experience on the British medical Journal (research) without even considering the diverse needs of their patients.

I don't want personal perceptions as to why I should have a certain operation, I want facts, based on the evidence that is presented it should be used.

Reading the reviews I can see that this hospital have consultants that represent their organisation - these people are not bothered about how they treat their patients, it's all about saving money - so the cheapest operation is the best fit.

No consideration of the patient and how much money they have put into the system.

There are other alternatives to treating Fibroids, but because of sheer laziness some of these consultants want to take the easy route.

I honestly believe that this is a good forum to say exactly what is happening - my choice is this... I will not be coming back to a hospital who does not care about their patients.

We are aware that our waiting times in clinic can sometimes be long. There are multiple reasons for this.

We have a process in place where delays are written on the board and the nurses make announcements every 30 minutes apologising for delays and explaining the reasons. This has been in place for 9 months following the Outpatient experience campaign and happens in all clinics. I cannot understand why it did not take place at this patient’s recent visit. We can only apologise and have reminded staff of the importance of keeping patients informed of delays.

We assess each patient according to their individual needs. There are different ways of managing fibroids. We aim to give patients all the options that are available. There are cases when patients may wish a type of treatment that is not suitable. It is our responsibility as gynaecologists to inform the patient of the reasons why a certain treatment is unsafe and unsuitable. We have multidisciplinary meetings to discuss complex cases and come to united decisions in the patients best interests. This may not be in some cases what the patient was hoping for. These decisions are made based on best evidence and taking in to account the patients individual risks. We do not make decisions based on cost nor do we chose the easiest route.
