"The management and delivery of our baby."

About: Tameside General Hospital

We were referred to Tameside from our GP in Ashton the minute I found out I was pregnant. It was a fantastic day. I was seen by the midwife and was referred to clinic in Tameside for my first scan. I was told that I had placenta previa very quickly and the was placed under the care of a Consultant. They were very nice and was very generous with their time in explaining what Placenta Previa was and how it can affect a pregnancy. I was reassured that in 90% of cases it would move out of the way. I never felt that i was overburdened with medical terminology and the questions I had were answered competently.

I was referred for diabetes screening which all pregnant women are screened for. I was told that i was at a high risk of having gestational diabetes. I was referred to the care of another member of staff. This person is very professional and lovely. They have looked after me every time I have been to weekly clinic. They have reassured me about my queries and their warm and friendly attitude to their work has been very reassuring. It is always nice to see them and they have personalised their care with me from the very first day that they have met me up until the day that i gave birth. They have been amazing and not once did i feel that my needs were not attended to. The most important thing that i had received was being treated with dignity and respect. The diabetes team at Tameside General Hospital are fantastic in their approach and they looked after me very well. I was very worried about the diabetes and the doctor who was the diabetes Dr at clinic was always lovely to speak to and was able to reassure me that the medicine that i was being given was for the best for my child and me. The doctor was very professional, never rushed and had a lot of time for my questions.

As my pregnancy progressed I had to stay in hospital a few times. The midwives on ward 27 were so helpful and catered to my every need. At week 37 we had a scan to see if the placenta had moved. We had a little hiccup with a doctor about a few outcomes but other than that we were generally happy with the care that we have received by Tameside.

The doctors and the Midwifery team at Tameside are a jewel in Tameside hospitals Crown. The professionalism we have received from them has been amazing and has encouraged us to really have a lot of faith in the teams at Tameside. One doctor maybe needs to work on their delivery of their advice their communication. There is nothing wrong with delivering advice with a little sensitivity instead of saying things as they, "sees it".

The midwife team helped me to allow my daughter to breast feed they spent hours with me to allow me to learn about my daughter and her about me. Your are an amazing professional.

The hospital could be cleaner and updated. The staff seem a little rushed and could be better.

Bravo to the team in general a very satisfactory experience all round.

Thank you for taking the time to provide to provide detailed and positive feedback about your maternity care experience at Tameside Hospital and I am very pleased that you had the support and reassurance you needed.

Your comments will be passed on to the teams mentioned here.

With regard to the updating of the unit, we are very pleased that work will be starting in the coming months to do just this, starting with the antenatal clinic and ultrasound areas.
