"Basal thumb surgery"

About: Queen Victoria Hospital (East Grinstead)

I would like to comment on the quality and exceptional care I received on my recent visit to QVH on 29th September 2015.

I had planned to stay in for just one night but unfortunately I had chronic pain after surgery which meant I needed to stay in the Margaret Duncombe ward fir 1 week.

I was under the care of a plastic surgeon.

I would like to say the care they gave me post operation was above and beyond all my expectations.

I was very fortunate that they were on call over the weekend which meant I still received visits daily, sometimes sadly for them, twice a day. Right up until I left I felt the level of care they gave remained 100%.

Their team were wonderful.

One thing I would like to mention was that I needed to attend theatre twice more for pain blocks in my arm. The anaesthetist was amazing, on the second occasion they had already left the building and had heard I was coming back to theatre so came back to the hospital to attend to my block. Never have I ever heard of that happening, in all my experiences, over my years of hospital stays.

The staff in Margaret Duncombe ward were very professional and friendly. They work extremely hard and are moving from patient to patient but still manage to give the good quality of care needed especially as you are an inpatient and are recovering from an operation.

My only down point was that when you are ready to go home you are asked to vacate your bed, even though, I felt my treatment hadn't quite come to an end as I still needed to have my splint fitted and needed to go to hand therapy before being collected to go.

Due to the nurses now attending the new inpatients and current ones still needing attention , it took a long time waiting in the day room to actually get my canulla taken out before finally being discharged.

I would definitely recommend this hospital to all. I have been an inpatient on many occasions at different hospitals before and this certainly tops them all.

A big thank you to everyone that took the time to make sure my stay was comftable and relatively pain free.

I will be coming back in , hopefully next July to have my right thumb basal joint surgery.
