My husband spent a couple of days on this ward after contracting an infection following a prostate biopsy.
The ward was not very clean especially the toilets.
In fact one toilet was out of order which left only one usable toilet for about 30 patients.
my husband said that as soon as it was free you had to run to get in there before the next person ( not too good when you are ill especially on a urology ward).
also it is ridiculous to have a shower and a toilet in the same room which greatly reduces the availability of the toilet if somebody is using the shower.
There was not any soap in the dispensers over the sinks- even one of the nurses said that this was bad.
The staff were helpful and friendly but seemed over worked as usual.
The worst part of the experience was when it was time for my husband to be sent home- he was told at 9am that he could go home but was still waiting when I went in to get him at 3pm.
it was only after I complained loudly to the staff that anything was done and we finally got out just after 4pm.
the excuses were that the doctors needed to write the discharge letter but when I complained the sister came about 10 minutes later with the letter so it must have just been needed to be printed off and it was nothing to so with waiting for the doctor.
It seems that the staff do not give any priority at all to getting patients home as there were at least 4 other patients in the same predicament as my husband. it is very disturbing for everyone when you are told that you can go home and then have to sit there for hours waiting for the staff to be bothered to sort you out.
