"Excellent care at adult burns unit"

About: Southmead Hospital

Following burns to my face from splashes of hot fat while cooking I initially attended my local casualty department (RUH). They gave me antibiotic eye ointment to apply to my facial burns and sent me off with no clear advice. Initially on arrival at RUH hey had suggested I may need to attend southmead but had decided that would not be necessary. However the next day I rang southmead burns unit and explained what had happened. They said I should come in the following day and in the meantime use Vaseline and not eye cream. The care I received at Southmead was excellent in every way. I was taken straight in for treatment. My wounds were cleaned by a nurse and then I was seen by a registrar and the consultant. Everyone was excellent: Clear, efficient, kind and respectful. I could not have asked for better treatment. Having been treated I left with clear written guidance on aftercare. I was told I would probably not need further treatment but was told of potential problems to watch out for reassured I could call if I had any concerns. Thank you Southmead adults burns clinic. You are all wonderful!!

Gear Gill – I was sorry to learn of your accident but pleased to learn that you received such good care from the Southmead Adult Burn Unit, and that they were ale to reassure you and provide good ongoing guidance in case of any complications. I hope that you are now fully recovered.
