"My partners Heart Attack and after care"
About: Royal Blackburn Hospital Royal Blackburn Hospital Blackburn BB2 3HH
My partner was taken to Blackburn 12 months ago. He had a massive heart attack and 3 stents fitted. The time in critical care was good no probs there, it's the after care that has been the problem. He was sent home and told the cardiac nurse would ring with appointments for him. He saw the cardiac nurse twice for roughly an hour each time, he was given a book to read about heart attacks and that was it. The phycological side of having a heart attack as I now know is very impacting the stress and worry of having a Potentially life threatening episode has had a great affect on his mental health and subsequently myself. He arranged for himself some CBT which hasn't helped because it is not specific enough. We have since been told that Blackpool-and Liverpool hospitals do an intensive 8 week course of treatment, group meetings and the like for this problem why is there nothing for Blackburn patients? He has also recently had an angiogram because he is feeling unwell, which showed up more blockages. Why on earth couldn't the doctor stent these blockages whilst he was in there instead of sending him home with more worry and still feeling unwell it's beyond me please explain .
