"A&E and Gynaecological unit"

About: Colchester General Hospital

When I initially arrived at a&e, now 3 weeks ago, I waited for 2 hours without even being seen by a nurse. I had to leave due to having to arrange a lift home, and returned the following day armed with a book. A wise move, as I spent a grand total of 5 hours waiting. I was seen by a nurse who then showed me to a room where I was left to wait with another woman going to the same unit. The room we were left in was an office of sorts with medical equipment and supplies left around, which struck me as very unprofessional. We were then met by the nurse and two porters who insisted on wheeling us up to the unit despite our protests that it wasn't necessary. I was eventually seen by a doctor who told me that the scan I needed wasnt available on a weekend and that I would have to wait for an appointment to be made in the week. I waited a week and receive my letter with said appointment made- arranged on a weekend, and I was expected to wait a month before this scan. I called up to protest and the nurse told me that I wasn't marked as urgent but they checked with a doctor, and the appointment was moved from a month's wait to the following week. I had said scan today and can say that the ultrasound department were by far the most efficient and professional staff I met.
