"Oncology under staffed"

About: Pilgrim Hospital / Oncology

my wife was diagnosed with metatistic breast cancer in March this year after it being missed in the breast clinic in the same month, the oncology clinic was run without the aid of specialist nurses ,she now has a new consultant who told her the disease has progressed and to start chemo treatment, no follow up appiintment has been made for her just to wait to hear, very different to my own treatment in my consultant's clinic where there are a team of specialist nurses, oncology seems to be run in a broom cupboard, no real sense of proffessionalism

Dear David,

Thank you for taking the time to post your story. It is the Trust’s aim to ensure our patients receive a consistently excellent level of care, regardless of where they are seen.It concerns me that, on this occasion, that consistency was missing, and the level of care your wife received did not meet your expectations. For that I apologise.

Your comments have been shared with the teams who, I am sure, will review the current arrangements and aim to ensure a level of consistency is achieved. If your wife is still waiting for a follow-up appointment, could I please ask you to contact our PALS team on 01205 446243, or via e-mail at pals@ulh.nhs.uk. They will be able to take some further details and chase up the appointment for you.

Once again, please accept my apologies that we have not delivered the standard of service you expected.

Regards

Sharon Kidd, Patient Experience Manager
