"Treatment and care"

About: Hinchingbrooke Hospital

I hate hospitals and try to steer well clear of them, but having broken my wrist I had no option but to go to A & E. I was seen by the triage nurse within a few minutes and thankfully given some pain killers and sent for an X-ray. Yes I had to wait my turn to see a doctor but from entering the treatment room my care could not have been better. The staff were great and explained what was needed and comforted me through it. I was given an appointment for the fracture clinic later in the week. The day before my appointment the consultant called me to say they had checked my X-ray and I needed an operation which could, if I was willing, be done the next day. I arrived early to complete the paperwork and was taken to the ATSU. There the staff could not have been nicer. I was helped prepare for the operation. All the staff were willing to take time to talk through what they had to do and why - blood pressure, temperature, etc. If I rang the bell for the nurse, they were there and didn't make you feel you were an inconvenience. The operation over, I was returned to the ward and offered food and a drink even though it was late in the evening. The staff were apologetic on having to wake me regularly to check on me. The surgeon came to see me to make sure I was okay and to let me know the operation had gone well. They came back the next morning to see how I was and agreed to allow me to go home. I was in a bit of a rush to get out - my husband wanted to get to the rugby. The staff were great. They got the paperwork and medication sorted and unhooked me from the machines quickly so that we could be on our way. My experience couldn't be improved on. While there I was very aware of how patients who had a longer stay, obviously been in for some time, were comfortable with the staff and all talked to each other on a first named basis. The comfort, dignity and care of patients appeared to be the priority for all the staff. I highly recommend Hinchingbrooke Hospital, the staff and facilities are great.
