"Tongue tie"

About: Calderdale Royal Hospital / Maternity care Locala Community Partnerships CIC / Breastfeeding Support

(as the patient),

My baby has a Tongue Tie and my husband noticed it at birth - the midwife even wrote it on my notes. We thought he must be wrong as they did nothing. 8 weeks later with frequent feeding (hourly) and lots of pain - my Health Visitor finally sent me to baby cafe. Lactation specialist took one look and said he had a severe tie. Referred me. I was told 7 weeks waiting time! ! I couldn't carry on - so paid myself. Complained to pals who weren't interested as his weight gain had been fine (because he was working so hard bless him) and I had thought my pain was normal.

Midwives need better training and babies should be checked at birth if parents have concern and it should be snipped there and then.

Hello

I am sorry that you have been without a response for so long. From the perspective of Locala's Health Visiting Team (I am afraid I cannot comment on behalf of the midwives) I am sorry that you struggled for so long, but pleased that you were eventually referred to the Baby Café which is what our Health Visitors will always do in this situation.

We will use your comments as a reminder to all our colleagues to be aware of this condition and ensure that parents are referred as soon as possible.

I hope that all is well with you and your family.

Best wishes

Emma
