"Thyroid surgery"

About: Basildon University Hospital

My husband had a partial thyroidectomy,up until the operation the care was fantastic, then it went downhill from there. On discharge he was told that a district nurse would be coming out to him the next day & he would receive an appointment for two weeks time for a check up,when the district nurse arrived they were disgusted that they'd been sent out to him as he isn't housebound, told him to make an appointment with his practice nurse to get the dressing changed, although I agree with the nurse I do think that whilst they were standing there talking they could of at least changed the dressing, getting an appointment with the practice nurse in the next couple of days would have been impossible.

As for the two week appointment that was never received & when I phoned the hospital I was told that the next available appointments wasn't until January, they asked me if he seemed OK & was his wound looking ok & that he should go to his doctor & have a thyroid function test & then phone them after a couple of days so they could check the results & would then speak to the doctor
