"Not much"

About: Tameside General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

Not much

What could be improved

Communications could have been better

Anything else?

I attended Tameside Hospital via A&E on the 16 February 09. I had been suffering severe stomach pains for 5 days and nausea and vomiting for approx 2 months. The wait was not particularly too long but once i was in a bed it seemed like they didnt know what to do with me.

When i was assessed i told them how severe the pains were and that i had visited my GP on several occasions with no luck as to what was wrong, i described all i could about my symptoms and was given some iv fluids and pain killers while they decided what to do. While i was waiting i was questioned by another 2 consultants, again i had to repeat everything. After waiting 4 and a half hours they sent me home with the more of the prescription that my GP had already given me which obviously was not working. They did no investigations at all and only 2 days later i was admitted to Hope hospital with Meckel's diverticulum which was ulcerated and i had to have 10 cms of my bowel removed. I was very shocked to here my consultant say i was lucky as my bowel could have perforated if i hadnt gone back to hospital. I feel my treatment at Tameside hospital was ridiculous and they should have at least investigated my problems rather than sending me home. This is not the first time i have had to go to Tameside and i can honestly say each time has been as bad as this one.

Thank you for taking the time to post this account of your treatment at Tameside Hospital, which I was sorry to read.

This account raises important issues about communication and clinical investigation, and I will be asking the A&E department to look into the issues you have raised.

I do hope that you are feeling much recovered now.

Many thanks again
