"Time wasted with an NHS 111 call"

About: NHS 111

(as a relative),

I called recently around 11 am, because my husband had massive bleeding after a septoplasty. It was not a normal bleeding nose, as it covered a hand towel in minutes and then he was sick with the blood clots trapped in his throat and stomach and he started to vomit.

The lady on the phone was not able to help me. She suggested pressing his nose, although he had a recent surgery there, then she just kept on the line asking how many mugs he was bleeding. I told her we couldn't tell because it was so much he was also swallowing and it was very difficult to breath. She responded that until I gave her a clear answer she couldn't help us and so on went the conversation.

After several minutes, my husband started to faint, and I told her I was going to hung up because I was feeling she was not giving me the help I needed and I would rather talk to 999. Her answer was "Lady, you called me" before she hung up!

I was probably stressed and anxious, but I know I was not rude. So, after thinking about this for days, I wanted to complain.

Finally I took a taxi to London Bridge Hospital, where my husband was admitted immediately and spent 6 days hospitalised.

I hope this feedback is useful
