"Waiting times in a and e"

About: Northern General Hospital

Afriend was initially dropped off at the walk in centre in town. Following a colapse at work. She contacted my wife as she arrived at A&E. We arrived at approx 21:15 to give moral support.

Friends work, dumped her their and ran. She was seen by triage at around 20:30. Also being told computers had crashed. No one seemed to know how to use a pen and paper to time log and take paitent details! The department was busy. Heating going full blast. Very uncomfortable. Our friend in desperation went to the 'windows' at 03:00 to be told very tersely there was a 7 hour wait. She was logged into the system 8 and ahalf hours prior. Or have you stopped counting the walk in centre time?!! She finally saw a Dr. At 04:10. Discharged at 04:35. Not happy with the diagnosis. (Unclear) told to go see her GP, . I really wanted this visit to be a 'succes' but all it has done. On top of previous visits is confirm to me the hospital is a dump! I wouldn't put a dog in there. Poor location. Difficult to get too.

Rip off parking. Unhelpful staff. Can't think of any positive's for the place.

I was very sorry to hear about your friend's and your own experience of A&E. We have recently experienced a very heavy demand for our A&E services. We would readily acknowledge during such demand that this situation may have impacted on the care that was provided.

If you or your friend would wish us to look into her care in more detail and provide a formal response, please could you contact our Patient Services team who will be able to provide assistance. They can be contacted on telephone number 271 2400 or by emailing pst@sth.nhs.uk

Kind regards
