"i smell a rat"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (London)

What a place! We saw a large rat scuttling across the hospital entrance. We told the Receptionist who barely batted an eyelid and said she would get someone to see to it.

Our impression was that this was a common occurance and that no one would be seeing to it.

Other incidents made me feel that the place is chaotic and I would not recommend it.

The Trust is sorry to read of your poor experience of the external environment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The Trust has a pest control service provided by Ecolab through our PFI partner Meridian Healthcare. Each month Ecolab undertakes a pest control inspection checking for any signs of rats, checking bait boxes and re-baiting if necessary.

The shrubs around the main hospital entrance are regularly trimmed to ensure that they don’t provide harbourage and the external waste bins are emptied on a regular basis to avoid a build-up of food. The Trust also has checked the area to ensure that all the drain covers are in good repair to prevent rats from using the drains as a highway . There have been no further recorded incidents of the sighting of rats and the Trust will continue to monitor pest control activity particularly at this time of year. Ecolab is a member of the British Pest Control Association (BPCA) and adheres to Industry codes of best practice
