"Left feeling there is nothing that can be done"

My wife has terminal cancer and for the best part of 3 weeks her condition has been affected by a deterioration in her mental health. After tests established that the course of her symptoms where not due to her cancer we (I hoped ) that she would receive appropriate psychiatric support to help her symptoms and give some peace and healing, there bye making her quality of life just that little bit bearable.

Dr visited and prescribed medications aimed at trying to settle her mood which has only had limited success. I expected to hear that Psychiatric services would be making contact only to be told not sure theirs much they can do in this situation. I insisted that she be urgently re-referred as my wife is going through hell, so am I and I was left feeling that because she has terminal cancer theirs nothing much that can be done.

I totally feel this is dispicable treatment and insist that action is done to help a very volatile situation. I and my family are bearing the pain of caring for my wife and I will not allow this practise or anyone for that matter to treat my wife in such a dismissive manner. She should have equal access to services in the same way any other ill person would have.

What do I have to do to get a fair and speedy reaction? Brining her to the surgery and stay their until you take action or maybe take this whole sorry tale to the press who I'm sure would make something of it. Our McMillian nurse is of the opinion that she needs psychiatric input so I would request that expedient action is undertaken before I escalate this complaint.
