Overall this has been for me an excellent experience.
The medical part was 100%.
Even though my operation was small I felt I was being well cared for by competent staff.
Now that everything has settled down (Your excellent explanatory booklet mentions that this takes a few weeks.) the results exceed expectations.
I am delighted.
I was particularly impressed by the way the nursing staff handled the few minor questions I had even when very busy - something that was evident to me as my bed was in bay C which is opposite the nurses' station.
Though the nursing and medical care was excellent, there seemed to be some confusion in the admission procedures.
I was not seen by any doctor at my pre-operation visit.
I thought nothing of this until it was discovered by the anaesthetist on the day of the operation that I had not been told the exact procedure I was going to have.
The anaesthetist notified the surgeon who was unable to conceal his irritation at the delay this unexpected interruption caused to his surgical timeyable.
Notwithstanding, he explained everything very well.
My sympathies were wholly with the surgeon.
I was told that I would have a post operation check up.
I have held off preparing this review so as to cover it as well but it would seem that it is not going to take place.
This is not a problem to me and this is not a veiled request for one as everything is working well.
So, in conclusion, medical and nursing exceeded expectations but administration did not quite get there.
I am very grateful indeed and wish I had had the operation sooner but the delay was my fault in not going to my doctor about the condition sooner.
