"The staff on HDU/Intensive Care ..."

About: Royal Albert Edward Infirmary

(as a relative),

What I liked

The staff on HDU/Intensive Care are a credit to the hospital.

What could be improved

Ward nursing staff appear to have no compassion. It is though they have become nurses because they did not know what to do as a career. They need to show more dignity to patients and their families and realise that their actions have consequences on patient's health and mental well being.

Anything else?

My mum died in this hospital and I have to say it was horrible watching my mum die in this place. The nurses made my mum feel like she was a burden, on one occasion she was left on a commode for over an hour as there was not enough staff available to help her onto her bed. She was in so much pain for that hour. As she was made to feel such a burden she began to stop drinking in the hope that she wouldn't need the toilet as much. She subsequently ended up with kidney failure which then led on to multiple organ failure. This is just one example of what happened over the 6 weeks she was in the hospital for.
