What I liked

The staff and Doctors in the Surgical Unit where I was initially admitted were very nice and helpful. They took time to chat to you and make sure you were ok.

What could be improved

I was admitted to hospital after collapsing with severe abdominal pains. I was transferred to another ward from the Surgical Unit and from there it went downhill rapidly. The staff were overworked as they were shortstaffed and the Consultant and his team who treated me were appalling. I have Chronic Pancreatitis, which is well documented. The consultant and his team decided that there was nothing wrong, I should take some antacidds and eat. I advised I could not do this as the antacids would make me sick. He barked why? So I then tried to explain about previous admissions to other hospitals and he then barked at me"we'll do a stool test to prove whats wrong with you" This left me in tears and I was in considerable pain, so had to beg for pain releif. They then discharged me with no pain releif

Anything else?

This Hospital badly needs to staff their wards adequately and the general medicine consultants need to treat the patients with respect. I felt like a hypochondriac the whole time I was in. However, when my mum was admitted to the thoracic ward she was well treated and the staff there did a marvelous job of looking after her. Also the Thoracic surgeons are very kind and well mannered and treat you with respect and dignity.
