"Treatment of my Wife"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske)

The CQC report does not stand up in my eyes as being a fair assessment of the hospital. They want to be in the position I and my wife were in on Thursday perhaps then their opinions would be radically changed.

We are on holiday in our caravan near St.Just in Roseland - yesterday my wife collapsed in the caravan and was floating in and out of conciousness - I dialled 999 and the ambulance arrived (little did I know that it was so serious that the air ambulance was nearly called for) in the end they took my wife by road to the Royal Cornwall Hospital. In assessment it was extremely busy but within 5 minutes my wife was in a booth and a nurse started checking her over - later we were transferred across the department to bay 8 and a doctor then took over - and then a staff nurse was involved before finally the medical consultant - several tests and x-rays were carried out to try to establish the cause of my wife's condition. Of course we had to wait for longish periods of time whilst bloods were analysed and x-rays checked etc - but what do you expect - do you think you can just snap your fingers and consultants will come rushing to your bedside.

The total length of time spent in the hospital before my wife was discharged was about 5 and a half hours - thankfully it was decided that no serious situation existed and it appears the problem was caused by an unexpected and unexplained massive drop in her blood pressure.

All I can say to the CQC is get a view from people like ourselves.

My wife was treated with dignity and respect - the standard of care she received was second to none. Can't speak highly enough of the staff and the hospital. Thanks to all involved in caring for my wife.
