"Not enough attention paid to me - Rotherham District General"

About: Rotherham Hospital / Cardiology

(as the patient),

The staff on B1 and A3 did what had to be done when it had to be done during my treatment for an irregular heartbeat but I would have felt better if I had been treated as person and not just a non-entity. I didn't feel my views were taken into account or my feelings as the wards, especially B1 was very noisy at night.

I did feel very isolated, I may be over 60 (just) but I am not senile, I was left for long periods not having anyone to speak to me. I didn't know when the doctor would be coming to do his rounds. The monitor I was attached to kept beeping all the time and no one came to check the matter, I switched it off in the end and no one noticed. Was it necessary to keep asking me if I was fully independent as I manage to take care of myself? I run my own business!

I appreciate the staff are very busy and do their best in difficult circumstances but I left hospital very depressed.

I am sorry that you left the hospital feeling that you had not been listened to or treated as an individual. We endeavour to treat everyone as we would wish to be treated ourselves and you clearly felt that this did not happen in your case. I take your comments on board and have now raised this issue at our team meeting.

Unfortunately due to the nature of B1 (Emergency Admissions Unit) it can sometimes be noisy of an evening but please be assured that we make every effort to try and not disturb other patients whilst treating emergencies, but this is not always possible.

I cannot comment on specifics of the bleep not being answered, but will ensure that this is raised at our team meeting.

If you wish, please feel free to discuss your comments in more detail with the PALS team here at the Trust on 01709 307646.
