"excellent service at the A&E of the BRI"

About: Bristol Royal Infirmary

Having suffered a trauma to my knee with a suspected meniscus tear, we attended the A&E department of the BRI on Tuesday 21.9.

mid-morning. Against expectation it wasn't busy at all and we were seen by a wonderful nurse within 30 minutes. This nurse was highly professional, listened to the history of my condition and was careful in the examination.

They recommended an X-ray to exclude any bone damage. This was also done within a very short wait - wheelchair service provided as well!

And the friendly X-ray receptionist and sparkly radiologist put a smile to my face despite the pain I suffered.

After the the X-ray result was seen by a specialist the nurses' advice was detailed.

They were happy to answer the questions we had, even though at that point it showed the restriction of the NHS system, as I then had to go back to my GP for further referral. And as many patients will know this adds to an often long waiting time of weeks, just to go back again to the same hospital to be treated by the in-house specialists.

Knowing the strains the NHS is under it's remarkable that the many dedicated and compassionate members of staff are able to give us (the clients/taxpayers) such a good service.

How politicians can think that a privatised NHS can do better is a mystery to me. The Profit is already there by supporting us to get better, continue to live an active life, contribute to society, not just as taxpayers, but in the many different ways our social network is functioning.

So - many thanks to the team of the A&E again.
