"Your staff are wonderful"

About: Buckingham Hospital

(as the patient),

I was waiting, after a successful podiatry appointment at 1: 15 on Wednesday for an ambulance to take me home. I had to wait 3½ hours (not your responsibility). During this time I needed to pee. Two nurses from the ward helped me with a pee bottle. This was very kind and probably beyond their line of duty, as I was not an outpatient and the toilet in this area is not designed for disabled people. I just wish to make this known and thank them.

Further waiting brought forth a dear lady from outpatient management who offered me a cup of tea. This I accepted and promptly knocked over, wetting my trousers and the new dressing on a leg which I had received several hours earlier. She cleared up the mess and brought me a safer cup of tea and held my hand while I was in the depths of depression from all this waiting and pain, from sitting in the one available wheelchair in the reception area. The lady in reception was kind enough to keep phoning the ambulance service to find out when they were coming - with no result for over 3 hours.

I just want to say that your staff are wonderful and do not deserve what is happening to them. The NHS is running on their goodwill.

While on the subject I would like to add that your District Nurses are fabulous.

P. S. I think that the final approach to the outpatients entry door is appalling and dangerous. Other patients and I have been asking for years for something to be done about it. A very small spent now will save thousands on broken limbs later on. I feel that it is bound to happen.
