"Decompression surgery on lower back"

About: The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (King's Lynn)

Following a very long wait from referral to sugery the operation went ahead on 7th September.

The staff at admission were polite and efficient .The op was over and I was in Elm Ward by mid morning. The staff there worked very hard especially the staff nurse who on the following day had seven persons coming in from the theatres whilst also arranging for four discharges from the ward I was on alone.

The auxiliary staff were cheerful polite and worked efficiently.

The food was always hot and looked appetising.

The ward was kept clean and tidy.

I am very grateful to the orthopaedic surgeon and their team who carried out the surgery. I am lucky that the trapped nerves and spinal column seem not to have suffered any lasting damage.. The longer the delay for such an op can mean permanent damage, that is my only complaint too much delay.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your surgery. I am pleased to read that your overall experience as a patient within the hospital was good and that you have made a satisfactory recovery from your back problem. I am sorry that you experienced a wait to receive treatment. There is a high demand for this service and the Trust has introduced a number of innovative approaches to try and assess patients as quickly as possible so that those who would benefit from surgical intervention are identified as soon as possible. We are aware that further improvements are required and we are working with the Clinical Commissioning Group to try and identify further ways in which we can shorten the waiting time to treatment.
