"The actual clinical care seems ..."

About: Manchester Royal Eye Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

The actual clinical care seems fine, just the supporting structures seem unable to provide the level of service required in a modern environment.

What could be improved

Almost everything - see below.

Anything else?

I was a patient during the period when the hospital transitioned to the new facility.

The move, from what I could see, was performed with no staff training about the move and no resources to achieve the move. The architect seems to have been more bothered about coloured stripes than medical need and knowledge in the design of the new facilities. I know it’s not yet finished, but the patient transport / parking / access seems far worse than the old hospital. The layout of the waiting rooms is definitely worse, the same old problems of cramped and disorganised waiting spaces, overbooked clinics, and missing notes appears to have moved untouched from the old hospital.

Waiting times just seem endless, there is a lack of continuity of care, you never see the same doctor twice, and each has their own way of doing things, so my treatment regime changed three times in less than a month.
