"Multiple Misdiagnosis"

I write regarding the appalling and life threatening experiences I have received from Salisbury District Hospital. I am a seventy one year old male and want to tell you about my experience. The reason I need to tell you is because have exhausted all possible avenue's for lodging a complaint. I have written to my local MP and David Cameron who all they advised is to go to the Health Ombudsman, I had previously done this with no joy. I have also been advised to bring it to the attention of PALS but this no longer exists at the Salisbury Hospital. If the Salisbury Hospital investigate the complaint the final decision is made by the Chief Executive of Salisbury Hospital. I have had a seven year battle with this department and can only be advised to go to the Ombudsman which I have already done. Basically all this means is that despite the seriousness it impossible to make a complaint.

Approximately seven years ago I was referred to Salisbury District Hospital for pains in my chest and upper abdomen. No diagnosis was made. On my first appointment the consultant performed a rectal examination and found I had an enlarged prostate but he never told me. After about eighteen months I requested my GP to do a PSA blood test, after being referred to a Urologist and a biopsy I was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer.

After several visits to my GP over the next 3 years and being rushed into hospital on two occasions with the chest pains I was eventually diagnosed with Pulmonary Embolisms. I was prescribed warfarin and within days the chest pains had gone. It was confirmed by thrombosis clinic that I had these clots for at least from 2007.

I have also undergone a total knee replacement at Salisbury District Hospital that was a disaster whereby fragments of bone were left in the back of the new knee. I have been in considerable pain with this and have had a second opinion at the Spire Hospital, Southampton. The consultant at the Spire confirmed that fragments of bone had been left in but it would not be remove them unless a complete new procedure was performed at a cost of £35000.
