"What a mess!"

About: Southend Hospital

Having not seen an appointment for my annual diabetic check-up I called the appointments line only to be told I had been discharged from the clinic in 2013 - this despite visiting the clinic in November 2014 and being a diabetic since the age of 9 (I am 45 now). I then asked the receptionist maybe I was under the consultant who manages the clinic. I was then immediately tranferred to the nuerology department who said "nothing to do with us".

I was then transferred to the diabetic clinic who advised that the consultant left earlier this year and so there are delays. Needless to say I haven't had an appointment with them personally for in excess of 10 years (always an understudy, never the bride!) so quite why this should throw matters into such disarray is beyond me. In any event, the helpful receptionist explained that I was on a waiting list to be changed to another consultant but they would speak to a manager to expedite the situation and I would hear in due course. Had I not called today, I wonder how long it would have taken? Should point out that all of this took approximately 25 minutes to obtain an answer, albeit not particularly satisfactory. To add insult to injury, just had to chase my GP for my retinal scan and seems they are unaware of such matters. Diabetic care in Essex? Poor, very poor.
